The Capabilities Of K9 Command...
In addition to our Rescue 2 Animal Ambulance, which is used for specialty or critical transports, EARS Director of Operations, Jon Nowinski, drives the K9 Command SUV, which is a specially-equipped Ford Explorer that can handle animal medical emergencies as well as technical rescue and on-scene operations. Known in the emergency services as a “fly car,” this vehicle is used for rapid response or situations where the ambulance may not be the best choice (due to location, access, weather, or other factors). Among things that the K9 Command SUV carries include communications gear, advanced GPS, animal triage supplies, a portable oxygen tank, pet stretcher and sling, and emergency turnout gear for working on scene. Even with all this extra equipment, the K9 Command SUV has space for 3 team members – a driver, and 2 response team technicians – so monitoring a patient or even providing supportive care in transit is still possible.
The EARS K9 Command SUV carries:
- A portable oxygen tank
- Animal triage supplies
- Communications equipment
- A pet stretcher and sling
- Pet carrier and 2 sizes of popup crates
- Scene operations gear (safety gear, lighting, paperwork, etc.)
