According to the K9 Officer Down Memorial Page, there have were 24 reported Line of Duty deaths in the U.S. of Police K9s in 2017. The causes ranged from injuries sustained during suspect apprehensions and pursuits, vehicle accidents, as well as environment issues, and every case is a tragic and unfortunate loss to law enforcement and the community. These K9s are not merely tools of the departments, they are fellow officers, partners, and in many cases, local celebrates that demonstrate their amazing abilities through public outreach and prove that no dog is “just a dog.”  
 
We at EARS are huge supporters of our regional K9 Units, and believe our handlers and their K9s deserve the best instruction and tools to assure they have what they need to address any medical emergency they face while in the field. As Connecticut’s leading emergency critical care response team for animals we also provide services to K9s, and have developed a special section of our organization devoted to this aspect of K9 Critical Care. The EARS K9CC program provides handlers with multimedia and hands-on instruction in immediate K9 critical care by providing practical skills combined with exercises based on real world scenarios.

· Securing & Transporting Injured K9s
