Join OUr Team!
Every aspect of our work here at the Connecticut Emergency Animal Response Service is done 100% by a dedicated and amazing group of volunteers of all ages, backgrounds, interests, and level of expertise, and we welcome everyone to become a part of our team! EARS is a unique organization in what we provide to the community through our medical response, but also in what we do for outreach and education all throughout the state. We keep busy – VERY busy – and there is no shortage of ways that anyone can jump right in with us.

EARS Team Members have the opportunity to learn advanced skills involved with providing emergency, disaster, and medical response for animals in need. Some of this training includes proper ways to work with all types and sizes of animals, first aid care, operating on incident scenes, and more. Because the nature of what we do is so unique, we conduct almost all of our training “in-house,” meaning that you learn by doing things, not just reading about them. New team members are paired up with members of our primary team who either are from the same area of the state, or share similar interests and backgrounds, so you feel more like you will fit right in. In general, it takes about two months of training with EARS before a new “trainee” is ready to become a full member of our response team, but some people complete that training sooner, or already bring skills that make them advance.

In addition to rescue training, EARS Team Members help to organize, promote, and run our Community Outreach Events throughout the year. All Team Members are required take part in some of these activities, but they are not all work and no play, there is plenty of time to enjoy them while taking part in them... and there are benefits as an EARS Team Member like t-shirts, getting to sit in on presentations even if they’re booked, and getting great stuff too!
Each month we host at least two Team Meetings during which we discuss and plan upcoming events, share information on the latest responses and training, present programs or guests to provide insight on different topics of emergency response, and much more. These meetings normally are held on Tuesday evenings in Shelton and are open to all Team Members new and old. Team Members are required to attend a certain amount of these meetings to be considered "active" in EARS.
So, are you in? We would love to welcome you!
